That’s why there’s loads to do on campus outside the classroom.
The Lifestyle Centre offers students and staff the complete gym package. With extremely competitive membership rates, it is packed out with the latest gym equipment, optional fitness classes and personal training sessions. Whether you’re a beginner or a fitness guru, our friendly and experienced fitness staff are on hand to assist you.
Relax, unwind and treat yourself at The Salon. Staffed by our talented hair and beauty therapists, customers can indulge in high street, five-star treatments – from hot stone massages and make-up application, to stylish cuts and colours – at greatly reduced prices. You could even treat someone special with a gift voucher for their birthday, Valentine’s or Christmas.

Whether you’re in need of a new look or just need freshening up, our barbers will take care of you in our state-of-the-art, newly refurbished barbershop. Why don’t you get a wet shave and massage when you’re in there?

Chill out, relax and catch-up with your mates over a drink, snack or meal at our large refectory – The Dock. There’s also vending machines in various locations around the College.

Situated at our South Shields Marine School entrance, this facility offers a selection of fresh sandwiches, pastries and hot and cold beverages.

Located by main reception, Starbucks/Bakehouse offers the Starbucks coffee range, as well as a selection of freshly prepared hot and cold sandwiches, pastries and jacket potatoes.

Our Tyne Coast College Students’ Union reps work across South Tyneside College, TyneMet College, South Shields Marine School and Queen Alexandra Sixth Form.
As well as providing students with social activities, the Students’ Union acts as an important communication link between students and the College Management Team. The Students’ Union elects a committee made up of a President, Vice President and numerous officers from the student body every year. Want to stand for election to the Students’ Union or be involved? It looks great on your CV or personal statement as it shows you’re a team player or strong individual as an ambassador and voice for other students.
Student Ambassadors play an important role in supporting students and staff throughout our campus, and helping out at events throughout the year.
Being an Ambassador will not only help us out, but will enhance your CV or university application, and you’ll gain invaluable experience working with a diverse range of people and different teams throughout the College. As a thank you for the invaluable help our Ambassadors provide/do for the College, every volunteer receives a voucher.
