The manufacturing and engineering sector is growing both locally and nationally, and is a government priority area.
There is currently a skills gap in the market for welder fabricators.
Salaries for qualified skilled workers can range from £20-£30K depending on the industry role, rising to £60K for experienced offshore work.
This programme covers the fundamental skills and knowledge common to all engineering practices, but is particularly geared towards developing skills to work towards a career as a welder fabricator.
This programme enables learners to acquire engineering competencies in realistic, sheltered and controlled environment workshops. This will then enable a safe progression into the workplace / employment.
This programme focuses on practical skills and knowledge, where learners will gain practical experience and understanding of welding and fabrication including MIG welding, sheet metal working, and thick plate work.
Three GCSEs at grade E (2) or above including English and maths. You should have an interest in learning new skills, and a positive approach to learning.
If you are an adult learner with relevant work experience, but do not have the GCSE requirements, we can arrange a meeting with the course leader to discuss your circumstances.
Learners will produce practical test pieces which will be assessed against national standards. Learners will also complete a workbook for each unit which includes a range of questions to demonstrate their knowledge based competence.
This qualification forms a major component of SEMTA’s Engineering Apprenticeship Framework and allows progression onto a variety of other level 2 and level 3 technical qualifications.
The course also facilitates progression to employment, or an apprenticeship.
