The video games industry is one of the fastest growing creative industries in the UK, that was worth over £5 billion in 2019. With the arrival of the next generation of games hardware and ever-growing mobile gaming platforms, the games industry is bringing exciting new opportunities for those who wish to work in an innovative and creative industry. If you are a gamer looking to take the leap from player to developer our course in Games Design is an ideal way for you to begin building your game development skills and start on your own career in the industry.
During the course you will explore the various disciplines of games development such as Games Design, producing in-game artwork, producing 3D models, and coding game functionality. You will have access to the latest in Games technology including games consoles and Virtual Reality hardware. We work with the latest industry standard software including 3DS Max, Photoshop, Game Maker, Unreal 4 and Unity 5; ensuring that you will be as industry ready when you finish the course.
Upon completing this course, you will achieve the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Practice that has been fully adapted to Games design. This course allows for a rich and immersive learning experience, students can work freely across a range of technical skills areas which reflect current industry practices in the games industry.
The Level 3 Diploma is taught across one year and it is the equivalent to 1.5 A-levels. This course is considered to the be first year of our level 3 Games Design Programme, with learners completing this course having the possibility to progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in creative games Design the following year if they wish.
Entry requirements for this course are five GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above, including Maths and English. Alternatively, a full level 2 qualification in an appropriate subject (such as Creative Digital Media) will also gain entry to study this programme.
The course is delivered through set assessments which are set and marked by the course tutors. The first year of the programme covers two assessment units focused around exploring and developing creative media skills:
All evidence produced for assessments is based on large practical portfolios of work which you will build across the academic year.
Learners who successfully complete the course will have the opportunity to progress onto the second year of the level 3 programme, the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative games Design.
Some Learners may also progress into employment in the media or Games sector via apprenticeships.
