CACHE Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 3

OVERVIEW

This is a full-time, practical, work-related course that is completed in one year. Learners must spend a minimum of 200 hours in a work placement alongside study at college. This qualification develops the knowledge and skills needed when working in a senior role with adults in health and social care environments. It covers a wide range of areas including supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and health care procedures.

A range of units will make up this programme, examples of which are:

  • Promote person centred approaches in health and social care
  • Understand the context of supporting individuals with learning disabilities
  • Understand the process and experience of dementia
  • Supporting infection prevention and control in social care
  • Promote nutrition and hydration in health and social care settings

Study Programme

Changes to the way the Government funds courses for students aged 16 and over means that instead of a single course, students are required to complete a full time Study Programme (whether they come to college or stay on at school). This means:

  • All 16- to 19-year-olds will be offered high quality study programmes aimed at giving them the best opportunity to move into higher education or secure skilled employment.
  • All students who are able will take a substantial qualification recognised by employers as being of real benefit to them in securing work or a university place.
  • Students who don’t have a GCSE in English and maths at 16 will continue to study these subjects after 16.
  • Students who aren’t able to study a qualification will take a programme of work experience focusing on developing their employability skills, along with work to develop numeracy, literacy and other core education skills.

If you decide to continue your studies at South Tyneside College your study programme will look like this

  • A main qualification: CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care
  • Preparation for the world of work leading to work placement and enterprise
  • Enrichment activities such as visits, sports activities and enterprise
  • Continuing of English and Maths to at least GCSE level for those who need to do so

 

Completion of the CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care.

A satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

It is suitable for all those who wish to work or are working in an unsupervised role with adults in health and social care environments.

The course is assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence and written assignments.

The CACHE Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care and Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services.

Job roles can include; Care Assistant and Senior Care Assistants in residential settings or supported living. Healthcare Support Workers in Community and Primary Care Environments. Healthcare Assistants in Acute Health Environments. Care Support Workers and Senior workers in Domiciliary Services.
